Higenamine is found in a lot of pre-workout and fat-burning supplements, but there's actually not much accurate information out there about what it really is. Most supplement companies that use it in their formulas don't even discuss it at all and the ones that don't do a very good job.

What Is Higenamine?

Higenamine, also known as Norcoclaurine, belongs to a class of chemicals known as beta-receptor agonists.  More specifically, Higenamine is a beta-2-receptor agonist.  This simply means it has a special affinity for the 2nd sub-unit of beta-receptors.

You're body has two types of receptors that regulate fat-loss: alpha-receptors and beta-receptors.  Put simply, beta-receptors initiate Lipolysis (fat-breakdown) and alpha-receptors stop Lipolysis.

By agonizing (activating) beta-receptors, Higenamine directly stimulates Lipolysis.  This is perhaps the most direct mechanism that exists with fat-loss supplements.

Higenamine supplementation directly increases Lipolysis which in turn increases the availability of Free Fatty Acids.

    These extracts are alleged (by the manufacturer) to contain a certain amount of Higenamine, but it's basically impossible to tell.
